Timex Ironman Men’s Road Trainer Heart Rate Monitor Watch, Black/Orange, Full Size

Glad I got the Timex. Does everything I need, works great, and was easy to set up.

In my experience, until recently, runners’ heart rate monitor watches were just about the most user-unfriendly electronic devices in the history of the known universe. Moreover, to add insult to incompetant, incoherent design, their illogical functionality was generally magnified by an obscurantist owner’s manual that appeared to be written by a particularly cretinous neanderthal. I’m happy to relate that this Timex model breaks the mould: it’s handbook, though small in physical size, is a substantial improvement to any I’ve used until now, and is a genuine attempt at informing rather than confusing the benighted owner. To add to it’s worth, the monitor actually seems to work consistently rather than haphazardly. How long this state of bliss will last is an unknown factor, but at least it doesn’t take six months of trial and error until one can figure out how to manipulate the damn thing. So far so good. Now don’t go into a frenzy of delight; it’s not perfect. Some operations are still overly complicated; the fonts are difficult to decipher, especially at night; and the review function scrolls through data at a rapid pace that is difficult to follow – especially whilst on the run. But these are minor matters compared with previous dysfunctional, teeth-grating designs. Enjoy.

This is my 2nd TIMEX HRM. 1st one started actin up within a year from the purchase, HRM reading got very inconsistent, inaccurate. So I was worried when I bought this Road Trainer HRM. But I got a gread deal and so far it has been pretty good. HRM reading is accurate and consistent and small upgrad I found was battery lid of the chest belt. They place the rubber band around the bettery lid so that sweat doesn’t go into the battery box. It does’nt have fany features but has everything I need. I would not pay more than $100 for this but if you find this at $70, it’s a great buy.

Easy to setup. Easy to use. All the functions works as described. I’m using for 8~10 miles runs, and the watch gives an stable reading all the time.

Purchased this product about a month ago, and I was originally pleased with it. However, after a couple weeks of use and more focused exercise, I realized this watch doesn’t perform. Here are my pros and cons
Pros
-nice look
-easy to use
Cons
-HR strap battey life has not lasted longer than 2 weeks. I’ve already replaced it twice
-HR readings are all over the place. I’m in good tune with my body, and it has recorded my HR as high as 185-190 for extended periods of time. I’ve never been able to get my HR past 175, even during an EKG stress test
-HR readings are very inconsisten with readings jumping up and down 10-20 bpm in a 10sec period
Essentially, the product is not reliable. I’ve used Polar in the past, and was happy to move away from their products with the this Timex. Looks like I’ll be changing back.
