Are computer monitors and tv monitors the same thing? How do I findout if my monitor is tv capable?

I have a gateway 23″ monitor. It has a High Definition screen and with windows vista (not sure how to use yet) there is a media center where I believe I can watch tv. The problem arises that we are building a Spa and want a tv there but do not want to invest in an expensive tv as we are not sure how the moisture will affect it, any ideas? Also, can we go wireless?

  1. You have asked many questions in one.
You can use your computer to watch TV as long as it has a nvidia TV in connection. connect your tv cable there and open the tv software and tune the channels.
However to use a laptop as a tv is not a practicle solution specially if it is for commercial use. You can purchase a low budget 2nd hand tv for this purpose. TV has certain resistence to moisture and humidity so a spa will not impact it too much
Yes you can connect the laptop to a wireless device. if your using it in the spa than you need to install a router. if you have hot spots around than you need to scan for those hot spots and connect for free. hope this helps

  2. Computer monitors and TV’s are not the same thing, in the sense that they are often built differently, with different goals in mind. However, most modern TV’s are compatible with computers, and there are converters that you can buy which will allow you to hook up computers to older monitors.

As for watching TV on your computer, you can buy a TV tuner which will allow you to do so. I would recommend PCI-based tuner cards as opposed to USB ones, since they will deliver more reliable and better quality connections, though USB has the advantage of being easier to install (no opening your computer and inserting the PCI card).

Concerning wireless: what do you mean by wireless? If you mean internet, yes, that’s very common. If you mean the TV tuner, you’ll probably have to get specialized equipment, but it’s definitely possible.
